In the exhibition POWERMASK, Walter Van Beirendonck takes visitors to very different worlds in which the mask plays a role. During the tour, the guide takes you across different functions of masks as presented by fashion designer from Antwerp Walter Van Beirendonck: From traditional use in a range of cultures to the source of inspiration that masks represent in the international art and fashion world.
At the POWERSTUDIO you can get creative every Sunday. You can start or end your visit in this studio, to work on a mask or to create a exuberant collage.
Maskerade
Bertjan Pot, a designer from Rotterdam, created especially for POWERMASK (limited edition) an amazing mask which you can customize with markers and wool. Experiment with colors, forms and patterns. How do you express character?
Making collages
A ballerina with huge muscles, a red mouth on a mask; Artist Sally Wassink has made an exciting collage which is on display in POWERMASK. Get inspired by her work and cut and stick with pictures and photographs from magazines a new face, mask or figure. Is it a boy or a girl? Does you collage have superpowers or is it hiding something? In your imagination, everything is possible!
