Hip-hop plays an important role the world over in making cities more liveable for local communities. It operates as a medium for sharing memories, knowledge and experiences, and as modes of expression, as with block parties and graffiti tags. Hip-hop has been and continues to be an important tool for (re)claiming and adding layers of meaning to parts of the city.
The world is yours! is a reflection on the way in which hip-hop informs such places, covering everything from the Kruiskade high street and the Bospolderplein to block parties and tram stops. It features contributions from BANLIEUE, Brand New Guys, Concrete Blossom and Notes, all of whom share their perspective on hip-hop’s role in the city they call home.
