The Wereldmuseum is a modern, progressive museum with a rich collection of historic art.
New logo
At the end of 2009 the Wereldmuseum adopted a new logo, which represents a
labyrinth. The labyrinth is an ancient idea of a path leading to the origin of
life. Its mystery lies in the experience of coming ever closer to the centre
but being continually led away again. At an earthly level, tracing a labyrinth
is an exercise in contemplation: a quest to find oneself and the way to
spiritual enlightenment. The labyrinth at a heavenly level will always remain
hidden from man. The highest level can be reached only by souls that are
absolutely pure. The labyrinth has been known almost all over the world. The
oldest images are 5000 years old but the concept goes back much further than
that. This symbol, which represents origin and rebirth, fits seamlessly with
the meaning behind a large portion of the Wereldmuseum's collection.
